Sea Kayak the Lofoten Islands

RATED THIRD BEST ISLAND DESTINATION IN THE WORLD!
"Deep, placid fjords, jagged, rocky peaks—a historic and geologic masterpiece."
A National Geographic commissioned panel of 522 experts in sustainable tourism and destination stewardship selected Norway’s Lofoten Islands as the world’s third Best-Rated Island Destination.
National Geographic Traveler Nov/Dec 2007
Glaciers sculpted Norway’s dramatic fjord splendour millions of years ago. A culture that has depended upon the sea from the beginning and continues to do so has revealed a promising paddling destination that has been compared to the Patagonia waters of southern Chile and the British Columbia, Alaska coast. This rugged mountainous coastline with abundant archipelagos offers not only spectacular sea kayaking but also magnificent walking.
Despite the northerly location of the Atlantic waters surrounding Norway the temperatures are relatively warm due mostly to the Gulf Stream. Hidden amongst the country’s wild beauty are thousands of years of history. It is the land of the epic sagas, the original fjordland and the birthplace of tradition that has followed North American immigrants.
This is a sea kayak journey from Å to Svolvær where jagged peaks embedded in the sea and the sounds of the Moskenes maelstrom, one of the world’s strongest ocean currents tell Viking sagas and legends of the seafaring people. Where idyllic islands look out on the open sea and white sand beaches meet the grassy flatlands you can still hear the sound of fishermen rowing wooden boats.
It is amidst this dramatic, seemingly painted, backdrop of glacier carved granite that we’ll paddle into fishing villages and lodge in choice sea houses built on century old wharves.
Trip Classification: Sea Kayaking
Our Sea Kayaking trips are Inn to Inn journeys that will allow you to relax in the exceptional care and of our qualified guides while exploring this majestic land of contrasts. We stay in choice rorbuer – fishermen’s cabins, here participants will share living accommodation in the same fashion as fishermen of past centuries. Breakfasts and lunches are served by our well qualified guides; while for supper we will enjoy local specialities at some of Lofoten’s best restaurants. Luggage transportation from rorbu to rorbu is included as well as all entries to cultural and historical attractions as outlined in the itinerary.
